About The Family Van
The faces behind the wheel
Launched in 2021, The Family Van is the adventure of Noémie, Kévin and Mathieu, three friends passionate about travel and mindful of the environment.
After several years in tech in Paris, they decided to turn the page on their comfortable jobs to create an alternative to the standard holiday: a rental agency for campervans that are 100% electric, designed for tourism that is more responsible and closer to home.
With The Family Van, the idea is simple: to give getting away its meaning back, by favouring short distances, local discoveries and gentle mobility.
Since 2021, more than 1000 travellers have already taken to the road with us to live unique experiences, with family or with friends, and to share this taste for travelling differently.
Today, The Family Van is far more than a rental agency. It is a community of curious travellers, in love with the South West, who want to slow down, explore without polluting and make the most of every moment.
Behind it all, a small team rooted in Dax, working with passion to prepare your escapes, to share their good tips, their secret spots with you and to advise you on their favourite itineraries.
Travel better, not further
Today, tourism accounts for nearly 11% of global CO₂ emissions.
Behind every long-haul flight and every off-the-peg holiday are tonnes of greenhouse gases emitted, growing pressure on ecosystems and a cultural impoverishment linked to mass tourism.
At The Family Van, we believe there is another way.
Rather than crossing the planet, why not (re)discover the richness of what is all around us? Travelling close to home means considerably reducing your carbon footprint, supporting local people and giving your holidays their meaning back.
That is why in 2021 we launched our rental agency for campervans that are 100% electric: an invitation to travel differently. More slowly, more locally, and above all more sustainably.
France is an extraordinary playground.
From the Pyrenees to the Atlantic beaches, from picturesque villages to nature parks, our cultural and natural heritage is immense, often overlooked, and yet within everyone's reach.
With The Family Van, we want to make people want to fall in love with France again, to travel through it differently and to preserve what makes it beautiful.

At The Family Van, we think holidays should follow the same logic as a good meal: favour the local, the healthy and the homemade.

We choose destinations close by, we take the time to savour every stage, we slow the pace down.

Tailor-made trip
I had heard about this company on social media and I admit that the idea of travelling electric appealed to me from an ecological point of view.
Right from the booking, our questions about the car seat (which was bought for the occasion, thanks again!) and other details were answered very quickly.
The campervan was very pleasant to drive and everything you need was available. Camping chairs and a tent + sleeping bag were even provided. Everything is ultra practical and good-looking on top of that. The double mattress is very comfortable and suited all 3 of us!
You get used to electric very easily. We had a bit of a scare in the Spanish Basque mountains with the battery running down quickly, but if you know that, honestly we did not feel slowed down at all by the electric side. It is great to drive and to say to yourself that you can enjoy nature while polluting it a little less.
So we highly recommend the experience, and with thefamilyvan in particular. Thanks again to the whole team for the organisation and the quality equipment you make available.

A friendly team, quick to respond and ready to listen. There was everything you need to travel for a few days. We'd taken an extra little blanket given the temperatures (February). We hadn't planned a precise itinerary and made it up as we went along with places that were recommended or found online. Would do it again!
